Ingredients vs active ingredients – what’s the difference?

Ingredientsare all components in a product and have different purposes, for example to mixor dissolve other ingredients, to bind, to act as a preservative.

Water is a common ingredient in products and is used, among other uses, during production todissolve/mix other ingredients.

Preservativesare used to prevent the product to spoil, for example by preventing that moldgrows.

Then there are ingredients that cleanses, moisturize, rejuvenate and so on. These ingredients are active on the skin and therefore called active ingredients.

Here aresome active ingredients we use in our products:

BHA-acids

BHAstands for Beta Hydroxy Acid. It reduces blemishes and blackheads by going down deep and dissolveimpurities in the pores and is used in both cosmetic- and facial products. Salicylic acid is a type of BHA and also has antibacterial properties. For exampe,CARL&SON uses BHA in Face Scrub and salicylic acid in Spot Fighter.

Glycerin

Glycerin occurs naturally in the skin’s fat cells. It absorbs water from the air and holdsit to help rehydrate and balance the skin.

Bisabolol

occurs naturally in plants, for example chamomile, and has a soothing effect on theskin. It is used a lot in products for sensitive skin.

Hyaluronic acid
